Gudgeon fishing on the Royal Military Canal

Gudgeon fishing on the Royal Military Canal

Postby guggs » Wed Feb 03, 2016 12:47 pm

As a proud member of the Grand Union Gobio Gobio Society (GUGGS), I'd like to come down to Kent this Spring to catch some gudgeon from the Royal Military Canal.

Two important questions then - a) is the Canal open during the Close Season? and if so, b) can someone recommend a few spots for peaceful and simple gudgeon fishing? I don't mind catching other species (!) but gudgeon are my main quarry, especially the larger ones. I travel very light so parking then walking a decent distance isn't an issue.

To find out more about the Society, visit http://www.guggs.net.

PS It's "Coarse Angling" not "Course Angling".

No closed season on the RMC as for spots think it is all quite with not many anglers fishing it which is a shame.
If all else fails try some think different.

Thanks for the swift reply, Frazzle

Same up here on the Grand Union and its various branches around Tring - the number of anglers on the bank has dropped like a brick in the past ten years.

Can you or anyone else suggest any likely gudgeon hotspots on the RMC? Actually, places to avoid might be equally useful! I'll probably be in the area for four days, mid-week towards the end of May.
